The Review:
Prawn on the Lawn Padstow was opened in 2015, two years after their London site opened as a fishmonger and seafood bar in Islington. The original venue was so popular that founders Rick and Katie Toogood opened a second site in Padstow. The POTL empire is expanding, with seafood bar and test kitchen Little Prawn across the road in Padstow (https://prawnonthelawn.com/restaurant/little-prawn/), and Barnaby’s restaurant at Trevibban Mill Vineyard (https://prawnonthelawn.com/restaurant/barnabys/).
The small plates menu changes every day (sometimes hourly!) and local fisherman land fish right at their door. POTL won Best UK Seafood Restaurant 2019, and have been featured in the Michelin Guide every year since they opened. I’ve visited before and you can see my previous review here:
On this visit we ordered the large prawns served with an XO butter, the scallops with a Thai marinade and spring onion, a gurnard ceviche with Ras el Hanout and hazelnuts, seared tuna with soy, mirin and chilli, and a side dish of crushed, spiced crispy potato.
The food was excellent, the service friendly, and it was not too expensive. The restaurant is very small, and its often very busy, so I would recommend you book a table if you are planning a visit.
