The Review:
Ristorante Lineadombra has a splendid location with an outdoor dining space raised over the water on wooden stilts, with views across the Giudecca. It is located behind the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute, just across the Grand Canal from Piazza San Marco. In case of inclement weather, there is also an internal dining room that is situated in a converted salt warehouse adjacent to the outdoor area.
The menu features reinvented Venetian classics with local and regional input. This is slightly more fine dining than the traditional trattorias in Venice, but the food is still predominantly fish and sea food, although there are some meat options. There is a good selection of national and international wines available.
Starters are priced between 25 and 35 Euros, first courses, including fresh pasta dishes as well as a very good fish soup, are priced from 25 to 29 Euros, main courses from 35 to 38 Euros, and desserts at 15 Euros. Main course options include blue lobster at 20 Euros per 100g, and fresh fish of the day (either cooked in salt or baked in the oven) at 12 Euros per 100g, as well as fresh fish, veal and veal liver.
The food was very good, and the service was very friendly and relaxed. The views across the canal were stunning. If you are in Venice, then this is definitely a restaurant to consider – great food and wine, excellent service, and one of the best views in Venice.
