The Review

Ollie Dabbous, in partnership with Hedonism Wines, opened Hide in Piccadilly in 2018.  There are three elements, spread across three floors: “Ground” is the largest of the three, offering all-day dining including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner in an à la carte format; “Upstairs, Above” is where you’ll find the Michelin star tasting menus; and in the basement is “Below”, a bar and wine cellar with cocktails.

The restaurant is situated opposite Green Park.  The interior is flooded with natural daylight and is arranged around a stunning hand-carved staircase which connects the three levels.

Open every day, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, accompanied by wines selected from the excellent Hedonism Wines’ list.  You can reserve any bottle that is available in the Mayfair store, and it will be delivered to the restaurant for you to enjoy with your meal.  Hedonism Wines’ full list is available at retail price +£35 (per 75cl bottle).

Stuart Clarke Restaurant ReviewWe visited for breakfast.  There is a selection from the open bakery of signature breads & viennoiseries, freshly baked each morning, and cooked breakfasts.  There is an excellent collection of coffees and teas, as well as freshly squeezed juices.

We chose the smoked eel, leek and potato glazed omelette, which can be ordered with an optional small spoon of Royal Baeri caviar.  The omelette was very good, with nice smokiness from the eel.  There was a small salad on top, coated in a good mustard dressing that complemented the omelette well.

We also tried the Croque Madame.  This is a Croque Monsieur, topped with a fried egg.  We also added the optional black truffle.  Both of these savoury dishes were excellent.

I also had a croissant, and this was particularly good, probably the best I have ever had.

Service was very good.  The restaurant was busy with all tables on the Ground floor taken, and this is obviously a very popular destination for breakfast.

Next time I’m in London, I will definitely have breakfast here, and try lunch and dinner!
