May’s featured restaurant was The Waterside Inn, Ferry Road, Bray, Berkshire, SL6 2AT
Award: Three Michelin stars
Chef-patron: Alain Roux
Review: We chose from the a la carte menu. The depth of flavour in the sauces was outstanding. The whole Dover sole, filled with a lobster mousseline was a triumph. The desserts, we had them all, were magnificent. The service was perfectly precise, friendly and knowledgeable. The staff had been trained properly and knew exactly what they were doing. Fred, the General Manager, kindly gave us a tour of the kitchen where we had the pleasure of meeting and chatting to Alain Roux.
We can all debate about which is the best restaurant in the UK, and where you had your best meal. Some critics say that the Waterside dishes are too classical, old and boring, and that the quality is not consistent. All I know is that this is the best restaurant I have ever been to in the UK.
You need an Armagnac, or two, to face the bill at the end of the meal. I don’t care. I want to go back now!
